What is an irritation bump?Updated 5 months ago

An irritation bump is mostly seen on any cartilage piercing and is mistaken for either an infection or a keloid (both of which are rare). Sometimes these will present on a lobe but this is also a rarity. An irritation bump is caused by irritation whether you bumped it, slept on it, got it snagged etc.

Irritation bumps go away the more you leave it alone. Sometimes they can take months to fully disappear but the best way to ensure they lessen is to make sure you have the right jewellery in the piercing, use the correct cleaning products, clean the site regularly and avoid the above tasks that annoy the area.

If your ear is swollen, and the jewellery is being swallowed by the ear, then you'll need to take it out immediately or put a longer piece of jewellery in.
