Recognising InfectionUpdated 3 hours ago

Infections are rare, but they can be uncomfortable—and the last thing we want you to experience after your piercing. If you’re concerned, begin by asking yourself a few questions: Is there unusual discharge? Is the area extremely inflamed? Does it feel painful to touch or even to wear jewellery near it?

If these symptoms persist for more than a few days, we strongly recommend visiting your local GP for professional advice. It’s important to remember that a new piercing is, in essence, an open wound. Some tenderness, redness, and mild irritation in the days following your appointment are completely normal.

With daily cleaning using our preferred aftercare solution here, most of these symptoms will ease naturally as your body heals. In many cases, what may appear to be an infection is simply part of the normal healing process.

True infections are uncommon, but if you are uncertain, seek a second opinion from a professional. Should an infection be confirmed, removal of your jewellery is not always necessary, as your GP may prescribe antibiotics while allowing the piercing to remain in place.
