Irritation BumpUpdated 2 hours ago

Irritation bumps are a common part of the healing journey, particularly with cartilage piercings, though they may occasionally appear on the lobe. They are often mistaken for infections or keloids—both of which are rare.

Most irritation bumps are simply the result of everyday irritation. Items such as bumping, snagging, or even sleeping on the piercing. The best remedy is time and gentle care. Irritation bumps typically disappear on their own, though healing can take several months.

Choosing the right jewellery, using suitable cleaning products, maintaining consistent aftercare, and avoiding unnecessary friction will help them fade more quickly. If your ear becomes swollen and the jewellery appears to be sinking into the skin, it’s important to act promptly. Either remove the jewellery or replace it with a longer piece to allow for healing.
